Marketplaces & Crosslisting

Where Vault sells today, exactly how it publishes, and what can still go wrong — written the way we would want it written for us.

First, the part most tools bury

Crosslisting — offering the same item on more than one site — is not what gets accounts banned. How a tool operates can be. Unauthorized bots, scrapers, and browser automation violate the published terms of several major marketplaces, and getting caught can mean restrictions, suspension, or a permanent ban. No tool can promise otherwise, and "everyone does it" is not a marketplace policy.

Vault publishes today through official APIs, prepared files, and your own hands. Browser-assisted publishing (the Browser Agent) is Coming Soon — it is not released, not approved by any marketplace, and not undetectable. You are responsible for following each marketplace's rules. Crosslisting at your own risk is your decision to make, with the facts below.

Why we're being upfront about this

We're resellers too. We understand why sellers want their inventory in more than one marketplace, and we understand why automation is appealing. Listing the same item repeatedly takes time, and keeping track of where everything is listed can become a job of its own.

We also know that some marketplaces restrict the very automation that makes crosslisting easier. Those restrictions aren't always enforced, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

We believe sellers deserve to know exactly how a tool works, what risks they're accepting, and what happens when something goes wrong. We're building Vault to give sellers more control over their inventory, not to make those decisions for them.

If browser-assisted publishing isn't a risk you're comfortable taking, that's a perfectly reasonable choice. Vault's inventory management, authorized integrations, file exports, and manual workflows remain available without it.

Every destination, honestly labeled

Three different ways Vault reaches marketplaces — official APIs, prepared files, and your own hands — with a publishing status for each destination reconciled with the same capability data the Vault workspace itself uses. "In development" or "pending" means the code exists but the integration is not released for everyone; we do not count that as support.

How crosslisting works in Vault

1. One canonical record. Every item lives once in Vault — quantity, cost, photos, condition, and details — no matter how many places you sell it. Nothing you keep in Vault gets rebuilt per marketplace.
2. Marketplace-specific representations. When you prepare a listing for a destination, Vault translates your record into that marketplace's own required shape: its categories, its fields, its rules. Your Vault item never changes to fit a marketplace.
3. Publication methods differ by destination. Official APIs create the listing for you; file exports hand you a ready CSV to upload; guidance walks you through posting it yourself. The matrix above shows which method each destination uses today.
4. Sales come back and reconcile. Sales recorded through connected marketplaces, imports, Point of Sale, or by hand all land against the same canonical item, so quantity and history stay consistent.
5. Guardian watches the risk. Inventory Guardian (Vault Pro) tracks reported sales and the listings tied to them, then either acts through an official API where enabled or hands you clear resolution steps. It reduces overselling risk; it never guarantees against it.

The Shopify boundary

Your Shopify store's catalog and listing content is never imported into Vault's canonical inventory to be redistributed to other marketplaces. Shopify stays a one-directional boundary: what lives in Shopify stays there. Shopify is also a separate subscription (see Pricing), and no marketplace endorses Vault or its other integrations.

Planned or pending — clearly separate from what works today

  • Browser Agent publishing (Coming Soon, planned for Seller and above). An optional Chrome extension that fills a marketplace's own form in your signed-in browser, one listing at a time, stopping for CAPTCHAs, multi-factor prompts, and anything else it is never allowed to solve. No product route publishes through it today, it never replaces a working API path, and when it ships it will be disclosed as what it is: assistance on your session, not an approved or invisible automation. It is not Inventory Guardian.
  • Provider approvals in progress. Shopify and TikTok Shop direct publishing is built and contract-tested but awaits provider approval and explicit release — their status rows above say "pending" or "in development", never "live". Amazon's partner approval is granted, so its row reads "Available — Active" while live verification continues.
  • Whatnot API. Whatnot remains file/export only in Vault. No Whatnot API connection is claimed anywhere on this site.
  • Destinations without a seller surface. The RealReal is managed consignment — the platform photographs, prices, and publishes — so there is no seller-operable listing form for Vault (or anyone) to fill.
  • More destinations may be added over time; this page is updated when they are.

Questions sellers ask before crosslisting

Direct answers, including the uncomfortable ones.

Is crosslisting against marketplace Terms of Service?
Listing the same item on different marketplaces was not prohibited in the official policy pages we reviewed on October 14, 2026 for eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Etsy, Whatnot, Facebook Marketplace, or Grailed — read that as "no rule found against it," which is not the same as approval. Depop's Terms go further and expressly permit simultaneous listing through third-party crosslisting platforms, provided you remove the Depop listing promptly when the item sells elsewhere and accept responsibility for a double sale. Vinted's and TikTok Shop's relevant terms could not be verified in this review — treat those as unknown, not allowed. Two more boundaries: posting the same item twice on one marketplace is commonly prohibited (Mercari lists it as prohibited conduct), and a policy's silence is never permission. Check each marketplace's current terms yourself — they change without notice.
Can using a crosslisting tool get my account banned?
Yes — depending on how the tool operates. Poshmark's Community Guidelines forbid unauthorized programs and automation; Mercari forbids automated access it does not provide; eBay's User Agreement forbids robots, scrapers, and other automated access without express permission; Meta's Terms require permission for automated access. Violating those rules can lead to restrictions, suspension, or a permanent ban. Crosslisting through official APIs, official import files, or your own hands is the low-risk path. Automated control of a browser is exactly the kind of thing those terms target — and no vendor's assurance changes what a marketplace's own policy says.
Is crosslisting the same as posting duplicates on one marketplace?
No. Crosslisting means the same physical item is offered on several different sites. Posting that item twice on the same site is a duplicate listing, and marketplaces commonly prohibit it (Mercari explicitly lists it). Keep one listing per item per marketplace, and crosslisting stays a different — much safer — question.
Which marketplaces allow official integrations?
Official seller APIs exist — with different access rules: eBay (Sell/Inventory APIs), Etsy (Open API v3), Depop (partner-gated Selling API), Whatnot (Seller API — a closed preview not accepting new applicants), Vinted (Pro integrations, allowlisted businesses), Meta Marketplace (partner API), and TikTok Shop (Partner APIs). Poshmark and Mercari publish no public seller listing API at all. An API's existence also doesn't bless every third-party workflow — the API's own license governs its use. Vault's own per-destination method and approval status are in the matrix above; we never label a built-but-unapproved integration as live.
How does Vault publish listings?
Three ways, and the matrix above says which one each destination uses today. Official API: Vault creates the listing through the marketplace's developer program, after your entitlement is checked on the server. File export: Vault prepares a ready-to-upload CSV and you import it on the marketplace. Guidance: Vault organizes your item and shows you the exact steps while you post it yourself. Every publish and export is entitlement-checked server-side — hiding a button is never the security.
Does Vault use browser extensions or automation?
Today, no listing is posted by controlling a browser. Live publication happens through official APIs, prepared files, and your own hands. The Browser Agent — an optional Chrome extension — is Coming Soon (planned for Seller and above): when released it will fill a marketplace's own form in your signed-in browser, one listing at a time, and report a listing as published only after the marketplace's own page confirms it. It is not released today, no marketplace approves it, it is not undetectable, and browser automation of any kind can violate a marketplace's terms. We will never call it "safe" or "approved" — we will call it what it is.
Does Vault need my marketplace passwords?
No, and it never will. Connections use each marketplace's own sign-in page (OAuth), and Vault stores the resulting tokens encrypted. The coming-soon Browser Agent works inside your own already-signed-in browser session and never asks for or stores your marketplace passwords. If any tool asks you to hand over marketplace passwords, treat it as a red flag.
Can the same item sell twice?
Yes. Two windows make it possible: the gap between a sale on one marketplace and Vault learning about it, and the gap before any follow-up update lands elsewhere. Simultaneous checkouts, listings you created or edited outside Vault, disconnected accounts, and marketplace or network failures all widen those windows. Crosslisting doesn't create this risk — but it does expose the item to more buyers at once, which makes it real. There is no tool, Vault included, that can promise it never happens.
How does Guardian reduce overselling risk?
Inventory Guardian (a Vault Pro feature) watches your connected marketplaces for sales the marketplace reports, tracks which listings are tied to the sold item, and keeps a visible protection state for each one. When something needs to change, Guardian either carries it out through an official marketplace API where that path is enabled, or gives you clear steps to finish yourself — assisted paths always stop for your review before anything final happens. Guardian never reports queued or unverified work as "Protected," and it cannot prevent every double sale. It is a risk reducer, not a guarantee, and it is a separate thing from the Browser Agent extension (which is not released).
How quickly are sales detected?
Only as fast as the marketplace tells Vault. A sale becomes visible to Vault when the marketplace reports it — through a webhook where one exists, or through Vault checking — and until that report arrives and any follow-up action completes, the item can still be available elsewhere. Vault does not publish a fixed detection interval and does not promise instant synchronization; keep watching your marketplace accounts too.
Does my browser need to stay open?
Not for anything Vault does today: API publishing and file preparation run on Vault's servers. When the Browser Agent ships, the tasks you assign to it will run inside your own open, signed-in browser — that is the honest cost of it acting as you, on your screen, where you can watch it work.
What happens if automatic delisting fails?
Guardian never pretends it worked. A failed, unsupported, or unverified action stays visible as open work with the item's protection state downgraded, so you can finish the change directly on the marketplace. Vault publishes no delisting success rate and no recovery guarantee — if an action matters, verify it on the marketplace itself.
What happens if a marketplace changes its website?
Official API connections are separate from the marketplace's pages, so a site redesign does not break them. Anything browser-assisted — the coming-soon Browser Agent — can break whenever a site changes, because it works on those actual pages. Marketplaces also change rules, fees, and formats without notice, and no feature is guaranteed to work at any particular time. You are responsible for keeping up with the marketplaces you sell on.
What happens if my marketplace connection expires?
If authorization expires or is revoked, the features that need it fail closed — no publishing, no syncing, no silent fallback — until you reconnect from your Connections page. Your Vault inventory is untouched, and losing or removing a connection never deletes your marketplace account (Vault can only remove what Vault itself stores).
Can I crosslist manually without browser automation?
Absolutely — and it is the lowest-risk way to do it. Prepare the item once in Vault, then post it on each marketplace yourself, or use the official API and CSV paths where they exist. Manual listing guides are available on every plan, including the free Collector plan. Nothing about crosslisting requires automation.
What about sites that restrict automated posting?
Some do, explicitly — craigslist's terms restrict automated posting services, and Vault says so out loud rather than around it. That is part of why browser-assisted publishing stays unreleased and why it will never solve a CAPTCHA or security challenge for you: when a site asks for you, the job stops and waits for you. Today those destinations are guidance-only, and the restriction stays disclosed.
Who is responsible for complying with marketplace rules?
You are. Vault is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a party to any marketplace or your sales there. Each marketplace decides whether to accept, show, or remove a listing and can change its rules at any time; you are responsible for following each marketplace's terms and for what you publish. Vault gives you the tools and these honest disclosures — not permission. The full version of this posture lives in the Terms of Service (sections 10 and 11).
Does Vault guarantee my listings or sales?
No. No listing is guaranteed to be accepted, shown, or sold — by Vault or by anyone. Vault's job is an accurate record, honest preparation, and truthful reporting of what happened. Marketplace outcomes belong to the marketplace.
What data does Vault use from my marketplaces?
Only what a feature needs — listing, inventory, and order information (item, quantity, money, dates) — from the token you granted. Buyer personal data that rides along in order payloads is not retained. Disconnecting a marketplace stops Vault's use of that connection. Details are in the Privacy Notice.
